:: backup FAQ's ::
Is Disaster Recovery the same as backup? Although there is some overlap, no, they are not the same. The concept of backup usually involves a copy of important data files, and often many versions of these files, stored in a separate place, and yet accessible very quickly and easily. For instance, in the case where a worker accidentally deletes a document, he or she would be able to restore that file with the latest version, or even last week's version, with only a few mouse clicks. The term DISASTER RECOVERY speaks to how quickly and completely an entire computer can be put back to work after the incident. This involves rebuilding the OS and the program files, as well as all incidental data. Cape Cod Backup uses industry standard Acronis imaging software to offer Disaster Recovery to clients.
Is archiving the same as backup? No. Archiving involves the long term storage of data that does not need to be accessed easily or frequently. And yet the data does need to be saved. And preserved. Cape Cod Backup can help with archiving. Depending on the length of time the data needs to be stored, there are a few very critical issues that need to be addressed. Not the least of which is will the data still be readable years later.
Where does my data go, and is it safe? Your data goes to a Data Center in Arizona. Here are some facts about the data center.
Kor Computing is committed to the security and reliability of all our data backups. That is why we maintain a secure facility located in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Some of the features of our data center are: |

With redundant telecommunications carriers including Qwest and Time Warner clients are able to take multiple paths to reach our servers. Our IP addresses are announced across all carriers insuring no single point of failure. |
And before your data goes ANYWHERE, it is encrypted using Government grade encryption code. It is important that you put your password in a safe place. Without that password, there is REALLY no way to get your data back. For a fee, Cape Cod backup will keep your password in a sealed envelope in a Safe Deposit Box. The fee for this service is $100 per year. It is recommended that you place the password in your own Safe Deposit Box.
How can I be sure that I will be able to restore my data when I need it? This is the question that really cuts to the quick of the entire backup process. There is only one way ensure that your data is restorable. that is to do a test restore and open the data file and make sure it is readable and useable. Every precaution is taken by Cape Cod Backup to ensure your data. Even still, it is possible, although extremely unlikely, that a corrupted file could get backed up, and would therefore still be corrupted upon restore.
It is easy to do a test restore and Cape Cod Backup offers a test restore service for the fee of $35 per test. This service is provided remotely.
